I’m sorry. This is the best we could do on short notice.

Shanghai Tunneled

Monday, June 11th, 2007

A couple of weekends ago we had the bright idea to checkout the Shanghai Tunnel tour in Portland.
This idea popped into our heads after a trip to Seattle, where we took the Seattle Underground tour (which was reasonably priced, had beer available, and was entertaining).
We naturally assumed that the PDX version would be slightly funkier, [...]

Night of the Pupusa

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

The Blue Plate betrothed and I have gotten to know two young hipsters who have traveled all over South America and happen to speak fluent Spanish (just like Mrs. The Bachelor).
They dragged us out, the other night, to a fun little taqueria right at closing time. Our friends have friends who work there, so we [...]

High Fiber and Whole Grains That Don’t Suck

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

First up… Sesame Noodles with Broccoli
Replacing the traditional soba noodles in this with whole wheat spaghetti doesn’t change the taste at all.

Nicely Priced Stoagie

Rich’s Cigars is a local tobacco shop (and magazines and whatnot) which carries their own house brands of cigars. They are well made, tasty, and inexpensive. Usually less than $5 per.
On occasional Saturdays, I like to stroll down the hill, pick up a floofy design rag and a cigar and enjoy it on the porch, [...]

Portland Food Scene “top in the nation”

Food Network is honoring Portland as a premier destination for food.
Well, duh.

Eat your fruits and veggies

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

The nutrition sessions we’ve had so far at bootcamp have stressed two things above all else: fruits/vegetables and dietary fiber.
According to the fitness assessment and personalized nutrition plan I got at the beginning of camp, I should be eating two servings of fruit and somewhere in the neighborhood of 16 servings of vegetables each day. [...]

Countdown to Summer

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Summer is awesome. It’s my favorite time of year. This year, to get ready for it, I’m doing a nine-week, holistic fitness and nutrition “bootcamp” at Recess Fitness. The idea is pretty brilliant: 25-30 people participate in three sessions each week. It provides structured work-outs plus a sense of community and accountability, without the (often [...]
