Mint Julep
Ingredients
- 375 ml bottle of your favorite bourbon
(Maker’s Mark for mixing. Knob Creek for drinkin’) - 1 handful of of fresh mint leaves
- 2-3 sprigs of mint
- 2/3 cups sugar
- 1/3 cup water
Instructions
In a small sauce pan, bring sugar, water, and mint leaves up to a low boil, until sugar is completely dissolved.
The syrup created will be slightly green and fragrant of mint when ready. Mint leaves will appear nearly black in color.
Strain mint leaves and allow syrup to cool to room temperature.
Pour bourbon into a mixing bowl, stir in syrup.
Gently cram mint sprigs into the empty bourbon bottle.
Using a funnel pour bourbon/syrup mixture back into bottle, over the mint sprigs.*
Close the bottle, and store in freezer until needed.
Serve over ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with a mint leaf if desired.
* Since you’ve added approximately 1/3 cup of liquid to the total volume, all the bourbon will not fit back in the bottle. This is a good thing. Pour the remainder over ice. Enjoy.
