How to Roast a Chicken

Monday, July 26th, 2004

If I asked you to find me a stick to beat this with, you’d have to say “I’m sorry Mr. the Bachelor, I can do no such thing, as this cannot be beat with a stick.”
If you bring this to the table grown men will tear up and women will swoon.
You will need:

A good heavy [...]

Customization is the key

I love the Trader Joes.
Cheap mega-food-mart style shopping with just enough hipster edge so I don’t lose my street cred.
Maybe.
One of the tricks to finer dining on a thin dime is to customize those insta-meals to prevent pre-packaged burnout.
For example, if you buy a pre-built cornmeal crust pizza, after baking (or nuking as the case [...]

Healthy Breakfast!

Saturday, July 17th, 2004

It’s the most important meal of the day, after all. This is fast, easy and portable.
Egg, Sausage and Cheese “McMuffin”
1 poached egg (I use a microwave-safe egg poacher — $1.50 @ Wal-Mart and invaluable in the mornings)
1 vegetarian sausage patty (Morningstar Farms is my favorite)
1 whole wheat english muffin, toasted
1 oz. sharp cheddar cheese or [...]

This is one of my favorites — very similar to shrimp scampi, only served with bread rather than pasta. (Eat your carbs! ^_-)

6 garlic cloves, peeled
1 cup coarsely chopped green onions
1 cup coarsely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

Cooking spray
1 large egg white, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon sugar
4 cups pitted fresh cherries (about 1 3/4 pounds)
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons [...]
